Paneer Tikka Masala

Paneer Tikka Masala
Paneer Tikka Masala
This is again another recipe from the cookbook 660 curries by Raghavendra Iyer. Nothing to say much about this dish as it is not only quite popular among Indians but out of India as well. I have modified the recipe little bit according to my taste bud and made it.Here goes the recipe.
Ingredients:
  1. Paneer - 200 gm (cut into 3" long and 1" thick pieces).
  2. Yogurt - 1 cup
  3. 2 tb finely chopped coriander leaves
  4. coriander powder - 1tsp
  5. Garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  6. Ginger paste - 1 tbsp
  7. Garam masala - 1 tsp
  8. Red Chilly powder - 1+1 tsp
  9. Turmeric powder - 1+1 tsp
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Mustard oil - 2 tbsp
  12. Onion - 1 (sliced)
  13. Tomato - 1(chopped)
  14. Cashew - 10
  15. Tandoori powder - 1 tsp(i have bought it from store otherwise garam masala powder can be used)

Method:
Mix red chilly powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, tandoori masala powder, garlic and ginger paste with the curd.Add salt and coriander leave and whisk to form a smooth paste.Add the paneer pieces into it and nicely quote them with the marinade.Leave it for at lease 30 mins to as long as overnight.

Take a rack and place the marinated paneer pieces on it.Grill it in micro oven for 10-12 mins turning the sides in between.

Heat oil in a skillet.Add the cashew nuts. When they are little colored, add the onion.Saute till the onions are little honey brown in color(5-6 mins).
Add tomato and fry till it is mushy.
Add turmeric powder, chilly powder and coriander powder and saute for 1 more min in medium low flame.
Now switch off the flame and let it cool.
Then blend it well in a mixer grinder with 1/2 cup of water.

  2. Great use of the paneer for the spicy curry. I seldom use paneer and am thinking of tofu as an alternative.
